Piedmont Hospital honored 381 employees celebrating milestone anniversaries and 34 retirees for their years of service at the 2012 Service Awards May 9-10 in Collier Café. Together, they represented 4,675 years of hard work and investment in the patients at Piedmont Hospital.
Forty-five-year employee Mildred Byrd received a standing ovation as she walked to the podium. She recalled training newer staff members as part of her job before she recently retired.
“I think I’ve precepted half of the nurses and techs in the OR,” she said, with a laugh. “Everyone in the OR is awesome.”
Byrd – and employees like her – are part of the reason Piedmont has been so successful, according to Piedmont Hospital President and CEO Les Donahue.
“The most important asset we have is our employees,” Donahue said. Care and experience are invaluable to patient care.
In addition to Byrd’s 45 years old service, Piedmont also honored five employees with 35 years of service, 22 employees with 30 years of service, 35 employees with 25 years of service, 30 employees with 20 years of service, 49 employees with 15 years of service, 82 employees with 10 years of service and 158 employees with five years of service.
