Open enrollment for Georgia Health Sciences Medical Center employees is now underway. All medical center employees must enroll or decline FlexChoice benefit elections, whether or not they are currently in enrolled, before Nov. 1.

“FlexChoice gives employees the opportunity to select a plan specific to their needs from a choice of four medical, three dental options, two vision options and three long-term disability options,” said Derek Carissimi, Vice President of Human Resources at Georgia Health Sciences Medical Center.

“FlexChoice gives employees the opportunity to select a plan specific to their needs from a choice of four medical options (Select, Premium, Choice and Economy Plans), three dental options, two vision options and three long-term disability options,” said Derek Carissimi, Vice President of Human Resources at Georgia Health Sciences Medical Center. FlexChoice will also continue to include incentives for living a healthier lifestyle.

New options and services will also be introduced in 2012, which include bariatric surgery as an in-network service (Select, Premium and Choice Plans), and vision therapy and coronary artery calcium screening (CAC) as in-network services (all plans).

Other changes include an increase in annual contributions to health savings accounts (HSA) to $3,100 for an individual or $6,250 for a family plan. The MedCo pharmaceutical benefit plan will also offer new programs to assist employees with drug safety and cost management.

“Our plan continues to be competitive because our employees have been working hard to manage medical expenses and pharmaceutical costs. That has helped us, as an organization, to keep the premiums low,” Carissimi said.

In particular, employees have been proactive with their personal health and cost-conscious when choosing therapies and medications. They have also made good use of preventative and wellness services, which have a direct impact on health care costs: The American Institute of Preventative Medicine reports that 87.5 percent of health claim costs are due to lifestyle.

The process for enrollment also has some significant improvements over 2011. All applications and forms have been moved to an online format and automated to give users plenty of prompts that keep confusion to a minimum.

“This should make it a smooth, quick and easy process, and supports our ongoing effort to reduce expenses and provide more robust and timely information on-line,” he said.

GHSMC will also host an open enrollment benefits fair to give employees a chance to meet with vendors individually. The benefits fair will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct 10 in Terrace Dining for GHSMC employees. Open enrollment will run through Nov. 1 for GHSMC employees.
